Why another blog about tea?

Tea, infusions and non-alcoholic beverages are topics I’m passioned about.

As a type 1 diabetic, I don’t drink alcohol, so I’m always on the lookout for interesting sugar-free alternatives. Tea was a revelation because I don’t live in a nation of tea drinkers.

Three years ago I followed a fascination herbalism course by the Vlaamse Herboristen Vereninging. Last year I passed the Tea Champion course by UK Tea Academy.
Jane Pettigrew taught me to approach tea, and taste in general, in a more methodical way, dig into the origin and production process and taste and experiment to get tea just right for its purpose.

In the summer of 2017 or 2018, I would like to join the tea sommelier course, but I quickly realized I’m not ready yet. I need to sample more tea and take notes to close the gaps in my tea and infusion knowledge. Then I thought it might be a good idea to share my notes. I’ll be focussing on loose leaf and tea bags. Tea bags are often forgotten while that’s what a lot of people drink.

Taste is something very personal, so it would be great to get a second opinion by fellow tea lovers and discover passioned tea growers, producers, and brands.

Besides the short tasting notes I’m planning to add:

  • tea & infusion recipes
  • food containing tea or herbs
  • the occasional interview about tea preferences
  • shop reviews
